Veteran singer and music composer Bombay S. Kamal passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. He was 85-years-old. The Hindu reported that he was suffering from respiratory ailments and was hospitalised four days ago.

Born in Mumbai, Kamal grew up singing Mohammed Rafi’s songs. It was veteran musician Ustad Moin Khan who introduced him to music. Later he shifted to Kozhikode in Kerala, where he was an active presence in the field of music for the past six decades. He was good friends with composer MS Baburaj who helped him enter the Malayalam film industry.
His first song was in 1979 release Evide En Prabhatham and most recently, he lent voice to the song ‘ Chalo Chalo…’ in Major Ravi’s Kurukshetra . Apart from movie industry, Kamal had his presence through Ghazal concerts.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
