Four girl friends from well-off families struggle with their own personal love lives. Veere (Kareena Kapoor Khan) accepts her boyfriend’s proposal and soon spirals down a path of self-doubt, commitment, and adulting. Throw in her equally commitment-phobic friends who talk about sex, punctuate their sentences with expletives, and generally like to have a good time.
Any fans of mainstream Bollywood films can rest assured that this one isn’t like the others. The film provides an unfiltered version of what goes on in a typical Indian wedding. High on sarcasm and lots of ribaldry about life and men, Shashanka Ghosh’s film promises a movie featuring women but, as they say, ‘it’s not a chick-flick’.
And, for once, the women are in focus and everything is from their perspective – their grouses, their worries, their thoughts about anything that would mildly alter their life. Refraining from the words ‘girl power’ or ‘feminism’, the trailer is pegged Veere’s impending big, fat wedding and how the girls stick around come what may.
Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, and Shikha Talsania, the film also stars Neena Gupta, Sumeet Vyas, Manoj Pahwa, and several others. Music, too, is quite catchy, composed by Shashwat Sachdev and Vishal Mishra. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Nikhil Dwivedi, the film is set for a June 1 release.
