Designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula for the movie, Padmavati, are said to be ’emotionally broken’ at the vandalism that took place on the Kohlapur sets of their movie. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial has been making news for all wrong reasons with certain fringe groups having objections regarding the plotline of the movie. The sets of the movie in Kolhapur, Maharashtra were torched and set ablaze earlier this week.
The shooting was taking place at Mhasai Pathar, when a group of 15-20 people barged into the sets around 4 am and vandalised the costumes and animal feed kept there. According to a PTI report, designer Rimple called the incident “unfortunate”. “There is so much hard work that was put into making the clothes. We will work day and night and make up for the damages, but morally we are very low. We are broken sentimentally. For creative people like me, Harpreet and Mr Bhansali, it is very shocking,” she further added.
This isn’t the first attack on sets of the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer. In January, members from a Rajput community group, Karni Sena assaulted the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for allegedly “distorting historical facts” in Padmavati.

The designer has been constantly in touch with Sobha Sant, CEO of Bhansali Pictures to estimate the losses incurred due to this act. The costumes for junior artistes have reportedly been burned to ashes. “There has been a huge monetary loss. Almost all the junior actors’ costumes have been burned to ashes. As far as seniors are concerned, I am yet to get a check on that. I am unable to contact too many people because the network is bad in Kolhapur, ” Rimple said.
She says she hasn’t spoken to the director about the issue as SLB is already under a lot of emotional stress. “Mr Bhansali was recuperating from the Jaipur incident and then this happened. He held himself strong and continued this shoot. He never anticipated something like this to happen,” she added.
