Peepli Live co-director Mahmood Farooqui has been arrested by the Delhi Police on rape charges. He has been accused of molesting a research scholar, an Indian-origin American citizen.

Farooqui was presented before Saket court, which sent him into judicial custody till July 6.
According to Delhi police, the incident took place on March 28, 2015, and a report in this connection was registered with the New Defence Colony police on June 19, 2015.
The complainant accused Farooqui of raping her in Varanasi, where she had gone to collect research materials.

However, Farooqui’s wife Anusha Rizvi, who is the director of Peepli Live, has denied the charges against her husband, terming it ‘false and manipulated’.
