A new poster for Sonakshi Sinha’s action-drama Akira was unveiled yesterday. Sonakshi Sinha plays the lead in the film, which is an official Hindi remake of Santha Kumar’s directorial debut in Tamil, Mouna Guru (2011).

The Hindi remake, directed by AR Murgadoss, also stars Konkona Sen Sharma as a police officer, and Mithun Chakraborty. The film marks music director Anirudh Ravichander and actor Raai Laxmi’s debut in Bollywood.
Mouna Guru is about a college boy (Arulnithi) whose life becomes chaotic when he gets involved in a criminal conspiracy. Other than having a female lead, Akira will have a similar storyline. Akira will also touch upon issues of women’s safety.
This is Sonakshi Sinha’s second film with director AR Murugadoss, who had previously directed her in Holiday (2014). Murugadoss has also directed the Bollywood film Ghajini (2008).
Akira was originally scheduled to release on 23 September this year, but will now release on 2 September.
