Kathua Rape Case: #JusticeForAsifa, Say Film Personalities

An eight-year-old minor from Jammu’s Kathua district was abducted, held hostage in a temple, drugged, repeatedly raped and finally murdered to scare the Bakerwal community out of the village. What followed after the brutal act was a concerted effort to obstruct justice. Bribes were paid, evidences destroyed, people were intimidated to cover the heinous crime that took place in January this year. Film personalities, Opposition parties and people in general have expressed shock and demanded justice for eight-year-old Asifa. Expressing outrage on social media accounts might perhaps be considered an easy way to react to the crime, but at moments like this, staying silent is also not an option.

Actor Kunchakko Boban will play the lead in director Jis Joy’s next. The film, yet untitled, is based on a story by screenwriters Sanjay and Bobby, while the screenplay is written by Jis himself. The film is produced by Listin Stephen of Magic Frames. A casting call for child artistes to play Kunchakko’s childhood in the film was posted on social media on Thursday morning. A Times Of India report dated February 13, 2019 quotes Jis as saying, “The movie is a family satire, but satirical elements aren’t told in the backdrop of familial relationships. It has another aspect that we want to keep under wraps right now.”
