Drishyam 2, the Malayalam drama thriller and the sequel to Drishyam (2013) which opened to positive reviews upon its release on Friday, is set to be remade in Telugu, the makers of the film announced on social media on Sunday.
Even Drishyam, the biggest commercial success in his career which is regarded as one of the best crime-dramas India has produced, is primarily a domestic drama, about a close-knitted family that works together to cover up a crime they were forced to commit.After an opening sequence which starts from where the first movie ended, George Kutty makes his re-entry, so unceremoniously, as a family man.
Mohanlal’s upcoming Malayalam film Drishyam 2, which is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on February 19, will not be releasing in cinema halls in Kerala, the Kerala Film Chamber said.
Jeethu Joseph, the director of the upcoming Malayalam suspense thriller film Drishyam 2 starring Mohanlal and Meena, said it took him five years to start working on the sequel of Drishyam.

Drishyam 2, the Malayalam suspense thriller starring actors Mohanlal and Meena, will soon release on Amazon Prime Video. The streaming platform made the announcement on Wednesday, while also releasing the film’s 1:09 minute-long teaser.
The upcoming Malayalam film Drishyam 2 starring Mohanlal and Meena wrapped up the shooting on Friday, 10 days earlier than scheduled, director Jeethu Joseph announced.
Drishyam 2, which is being shot in Thodupuzha in Idukki district of Kerala for over a week, ran into trouble when Panchayat members found that the shooting was taking place in a protected area and complained against them, according to a report in Mangalam Malayalam News.
Malayalam actor Mohanlal on Monday took to Instagram to post pictures from the sets of Drishyam 2. He posted a picture along with his co-stars Meena, Ansiba, and Esther Anil with the caption “Georgekutty and Family… #Drishyam2.”

Mohanlal-starrer Drishyam, which was remade in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, will now be remade in Chinese as well. A Chinese production house has bought the remake rights of the film from Aashirvad Cinemas, which had bankrolled the Malayalam film.
Esther Anil, best known for her role as the younger daughter in Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam and the subsequent Tamil and Telugu versions of the film, will soon make her debut as a lead actress in noted filmmaker Shaji N Karun’s film.Esther, who recently shifted to Kochi from Wayanad to prepare for acting career and academics, made her on screen debut as a child artiste in Aji John’s Nallavan in 2010.
He will also be playing the role of a 70-year-old in Pareed Pandari opposite Sajitha Madathil, in addition to starring in the Mammootty-starrer The Great Father. Shankar’s 2. 0 is a sequel to Tamil blockbuster Enthiran (2010). The film will feature Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson, with music by AR Rahman.
A path-breaking work in the Kannada film industry, Lucia received widespread acclaim within India and internationally. The film won a number of awards, including the Audience Choice Award at the London Indian Film Festival. The film was remade in Tamil as Ennakkul Oruvan, with Siddharth playing the lead role.
The trailer of Drishyam, Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer suspense thriller, has been viewed over one million times via Youtube, Facebook and other social media networking sites. According to the makers, the movie will have Ajay Devgn going back to his earlier stellar and gripping work in movies such as Apharan, Gangajaal, Zakhm amongst others.
Production of the film is by Viacom 18, which won three awards in recent time – for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Queen and Mary Kom; along with Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak who were recognised for their work in Boond.Nishikant Kamat, who bagged the National Award for his directorial Dombivili Fast, will be at the helm of this project while Avinash Arun will handle cinematography.
The Hindi remake of the Malayalam super hit film Drishyam, starring Ajay Devgn, will release in July 2015, said a DNA report.It had Mohanlal and Meena in lead roles. It won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Popular Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Film in Malayalam.The remake is being directed by Nishikant Kamat and produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures along with Panorama Studios.
Pranav, son of superstar Mohanlal is currently working as an Assistant Director in the Tamil remake of Drishyam with Jeethu Joseph. Tentatively titled Papanasam, the shooting of the Kamal Haasan film is progressing in Chennai now. “Pranav is very quiet on the sets. Unless someone reminds me, I often forget that he is Mohanlal’s son. He is very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of cinema,” says Jeethu Joseph. Pranav’s uncle Suresh Balaji is producing the film. It is hardly a surprise that the 24-year-old chose direction over acting as he has always maintained that he aspired to be behind the camera. Having said that he has shown his acting prowess as a child and even won a state award in 2002 for the Malayalam film Punarjani. He has also been part of his dad’s films like Onnaman and Sagar Alias Jacky.
