Jagapathi Babu Begins Shooting For Puli Murugan, Highest Paid Outside Actor

Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu, who is making his Malayalam debut with Mohanlal’s Puli Murugan, began shooting for the film yesterday. The actor is likely to play the role of the antagonist, or an equally important character. Reportedly, the actor was paid Rs.70 lakh to be a part of the project, the highest an actor from another industry has been paid in Malayalam cinema. The film is scheduled to release next year. Jagapathi Babu has become a much sought after supporting actor after projects like Ma Naanaku Prematho and Selvaraghavan’s Kaan. Jagapathi Babu played a RAW (Research & Analysis Wing) agent in Kaan, which is aiming to release in sixteen languages, including French, Spanish and Portugese.

Actor Jagapathi Babu, who last acted alongside Rajinikanth in director KS Ravikumar’s Lingaa, will play a RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent in director Selvaraghavan’s upcoming film Kaan. Speaking to TOI, Jagapathi Babu said his character will be a RAW operative who has been thrown out, and is frustrated with how his life is unfolding. The character will be mouthing several profanities, which Jagapathi Babu feels will lend authenticity to the character, even though the actual words will be replaced with beeps. RAW is India’s primary foreign intelligence agency.

Actor Jagapathi Babu, who plays Mahesh Babu’s father in Srimanthudu, is in awe of the superstar. “Mahesh owns every scene he stars in. His dedication is infectious and there’s so much I got to learn from him on the sets,” Jagapathi told Silverscreen. The 53-year old actor also believes Mahesh is a perfectionist. Although this is the first time the duo has worked together, Jagapathi says he’d love to work with him again.
