A Kerala court, on Friday stayed the release of the Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer Kaduva, based on a plea filed by Jose Kuruvinakkunnel also known as Kuruvinakkunnel Kuruvachan, a businessman and planter based in Pala who said that the central character of the film is based on him, Bar and Bench reported.
The Kerala High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to Jinu V Abraham, the screenwriter of the upcoming Malayalam film Kaduva, based on a writ petition filed by Anurag Augustus, who sought the cancellation of Jinu’s copyright on the film’s script, Jinu’s counsel Santhosh Mathew told Silverscreen India.
The shooting of Kaduva, the Malayalam film whose shooting had to be suspended on the orders of a Kerala court, was resumed on April 17. Dismissing the court’s order, the film’s writer Jinu Abraham told Silverscreen India on Tuesday that the court’s order was “fake news”.
The makers of Kaduva, the upcoming Malayalam film starring Prithiviraj Sukumaran, were ordered by the Irinjalakuda Sub Court in Thrissur, Kerala on April 8 to suspend the film’s production and promotions after an NRI filed a complaint against the producer.
The Kerala High Court on Thursday gave clearance to Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming film Kaduva, while it banned actor Suresh Gopi’s film about the same character, Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachen.
The shooting for Kaduva, starring Prithviraj will start filming in December. The film is directed by Shaji Kailas and scripted by Jinu Abraham.
With Kerala easing restrictions on film shootings within the state, the Malayalam film industry has been resuming work slowly. After suspended schedules were re-started, film stars and filmmakers have been announcing new projects.
Director Shaji Kailas, who made several highly popular Malayalam action-entertainers in the 90s, has announced a new project after a gap of six years. The film, titled Kaduva, features Prithviraj in the lead role. The actor is also co-producing the film with Magic Frames’ Listin Stephen.

Though he comes only in the second half of the movie, he surprises people yet again with his uncanny screen presence and comical dialogues. Although none of his comedies make sense, they for sure leave a smile on your face. Unmistakably, his role is the highpoint of the film and only post his entry the film picks up pace.
