From ‘RRR’ to ‘Don’, Tamil and Telugu Film Industries Announce Dates for Star-Studded Releases

For theatres, especially in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Sankranthi/Pongal 2022 was celebrated on a quiet note. Most of the star-studded releases that were scheduled to hit theatres, were postponed due to peak in the Covid-19 pandemic, in January. On Monday, the Tamil and Telugu film industries bounced back, by announcing the release dates of many big projects, in the coming months.

‘Mugguru Monagallu’ Director Says Success of Telugu Comedy Films in Theatres Post the Covid-19 First Wave Gave Them the Confidence to Opt for Theatrical Release

Mugguru Monagallu, the upcoming Telugu feature film directed by debutant filmmaker Abhilash Reddy, is set to release in theatres on August 6, the makers of the film announced on social media on Thursday. It is set to clash at the box office with the Kiran Abbavaram starrer SR Kalyanamandapam.

Upcoming Telugu Films: Round Up of Production Status 

Several Telugu films, which were in various stages of production, have come to a grinding halt after state governments announced lockdowns due to the sudden spike of Covid-19 cases in the country. While some films were still being shot, like Liger (starring Vijay Devarakonda) and Adivi Sesh’s Major, films like Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata, Maestro (the Telugu remake of Andhadhun) and Prabhas’s untitled film directed by Nag Ashwin were in the initial stages of production.

Laabam Shooting In Final Phase, Scheduled For Early-2021 Release

Laabam, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan, has begun its final phase of shooting in Krishnagiri and is set for an early-2021 release. Speaking with Silverscreen India on Thursday, the film’s publicity manager Yuvraaj said, “The film is in its last leg of shooting and currently the climax is being shot at Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. The shooting will be completed within one week and the film will be released in February or March next year.”
