Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team and current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has announced that his biopic will be produced by Luv Films, the production house founded by filmmakers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg.
Filmmaker Luv Ranjan who is currently riding high on the success of his film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, hopes the audience will enjoy a different side of actor Ajay Devgn in his next venture — an urban romantic comedy.
The release of the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer directed by Luv Ranjan has been postponed to Holi 2023 (March 8). The film was earlier slated to release on January 26, next year.
The makers of the yet-to-be-titled project, Luv Films, took to social media on Tuesday to make the announcement.
The upcoming film is a romantic comedy, which also stars filmmaker Boney Kapoor as the father of Ranbir Kapoor’s character while Dimple Kapadia will be playing his mother. This film will mark the acting debut of Boney Kapoor.
Ranjan, who has previously directed Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, had announced this film back in 2019. However, the untitled film was on hold for a year-and-a-half, Ranbir Kapoor had said during a 2020 video interview with Rajeev Masand.
The shooting, which kept getting postponed due to the pandemic, finally began in January 2021.
The film has been partly shot in Delhi and Mumbai, and the final schedule is set to take place in Spain later this year, according to Pinkvilla. The unit, along with the entire cast, will be flying there in the summer, either May or June, as per the report. “Spain forms an important backdrop for a small portion of the romcom. Ranbir has completed his Brahmastra shoot and he wants to complete Luv’s Indian schedule before he gets into Sandeep Venga Reddy’s Animal where he needs to have a certain look,” a source told Pinkvilla, adding that apart from the pandemic, it has also been a challenge coordinating the dates of the cast, particularly Boney Kapoor and Kapadia, who have both been busy with other projects.

Kapoor’s film with Vanga is said to be a crime drama and according to a report in Tollywood.net, the film has changed its title from “Devil” to “Animal”. Vanga decided to change the title as Devil had already been registered with Sajid Nadiadwala, who plans to use the title for the sequel of Kick, his film with Salman Khan, said the report.
Responding to reports that he has been signed for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film – a Baiju Bawra biopic – as a medieval musician, Ranbir Kapoor said, “I haven’t been offered any film from him (Sanjay Leela Bhansali).”
Produced by Luv Ranjan and directed by Akiv Ali, it’s an urban comedy, which has Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead.
