The shooting for the first installment of the Tamil historical drama film Ponniyin Selvan was wrapped on Saturday. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie will release in the summer of 2022. The film’s producers Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies took to their social media to make the announcement.
A complaint was filed against Mani Ratnam’s production company Madras Talkies by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) following reports of the death of a horse on the sets of Ponniyin Selvan, the filmmaker’s upcoming historical film. Based on this complaint, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has called for an inquiry into the horse’s death, PETA said in a statement on Friday.

At a press meet that was held today, director Karthikeyan said that the team has begun the spadework to present Kalki’s novel in animation. “We have handpicked talented animation artistes across India. As an animation specialist myself, I understand how difficult it is to make Ponniyin Selvan a feature film. Even to make Vandhiya Devan’s (the protagonist) hair move in the air, we should visualise and execute it flawlessly,” said Karthikeyan.
