Mumbai Police’s Motive for Probe Into TRP Scam was to Arrest Arnab Goswami, Republic TV Tells Bombay HC 

Republic TV on Monday told the Bombay High Court that the Mumbai Police’s intention of probe into the alleged TRP scam was only to arrest the news channel’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami. The channel said that the texts exchanged between Goswami and Partho Dasgupta, the former CEO of BARC India, were “merely conversations between two friends”, Bar and Bench reported.

Fake TRP Scam: A Look at the Developments So Far

The TRP scam, which was uncovered in October 2020 after three television news channels were accused of rigging television rating points (TRP) to increase viewership, saw a new development on Sunday after Pakistan’s foreign ministry alleged India’s ruling party BJP and its ideological parent organisation, RSS, of staging “false flag” operations in the Pulwama attack of February 2019.

Republic TV’s parent company, ARG Outlier Media Pvt. Ltd, on Thursday filed a criminal defamation case at Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House courts against Navika Kumar, an anchor of English news channel Times Now for allegedly making “defamatory” remarks about Arnab Goswami, Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief, in connection with the TRP scam case, reported Bar and Bench.
