Akshay Kumar’s mother, Aruna Bhatia, was admitted to Mumbai’s Hiranandani Hospital on September 3 and is currently in critical condition, according to a report in India Today. While details about her illness and treatment are not yet known, she is reportedly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Kumar, who was shooting for his upcoming film Cinderella in the UK, has flown back to tend to his ailing mother.
“The actor’s mother has been unwell for a few days and is in the ICU at Mumbai’s Hiranandani Hospital. Akshay is extremely attached to his mother and could not stay away from her while she’s not well, so he decided to fly back to India in a sudden decision,” a source told Hindustan Times.
“Even as he has flown back to be with his mother, he has told his producers to carry on shooting with scenes that do not require his presence. All other work commitments of his also continue,” the source added.
Kumar was in the UK for the past couple of weeks shooting for Cinderella. The upcoming psychological thriller is his next project with director Ranjit M Tiwari, who helmed his last theatrical release, Bell Bottom. The film also stars Rakul Preet Singh. It is a supposed remake of the 2019 Telugu thriller Rakshasudu, itself a remake of the 2018 Tamil hit Ratsasan.
Apart from this, Kumar recently shot for Atrangi Re with Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush. He will soon be seen in a few other films as well, including Bachchan Pandey and Prithviraj, which is a biopic of Prithviraj Chauhan.

The actor also has Sooryavanshi, which marks his foray into Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. The film, which has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic, is expected to release in theatres this year.
Kumar, who was last seen in Bell Bottom alongside Lara Dutta, Huma Qureshi, and Vaani Kapoor, also has Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, OMG – Oh My God 2, and the web series The End in the making.
