Arunraja along with his wife Sindhuja tested positive for Covid-19 a few weeks ago. The couple was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai. While Arunraja recovered well, Sindhuja succumbed to the infection on May 16.

“I saw with my own eyes the life of my wife being crushed and thrown out of her, Arunraja wrote in the post, adding that only then he realised the seriousness of the situation.

In the post, he stated that despite best efforts, they couldn’t save Sindhuja’s life and noted that the virus is still claiming the lives of many. “The virus is unaware of love, poverty, our likes and dislikes. We are all equal before it. If we self-introspect, we will realise that the virus is our common enemy and together we can battle towards a solution,” he said.

“The victory is not just safeguarding our friends and family but protecting each and every one. Our collective effort is the key to defeating the virus,” he said adding that if we strive to defeat the common enemy instead of fighting amongst ourselves, “nothing can tamper our unity”.

He noted that disunity and differences will only make the enemy (Coronavirus) stronger. “We will be able to work towards our dreams and goals only if we curb the spread of the virus,” he said.

Arunraja added that “negligence” is the “first enemy” and the primary cause for the spread of infection. “Negligence of a few people will also affect those who are extremely careful,” he said adding that even God can’t help us if we don’t rise beyond our differences and fight this virus together.

Arunraja concluded his post by thanking the doctors who “worked tirelessly to rescue” him and his wife.

Many people from the Tamil film fraternity mourned Sindhuja’s death. Actors Sivakarthikeyan and Udhayanidhi Stalin attended her funeral.

Arunraja who is also an actor, singer and lyricist is directing the Tamil remake of the Hindi film Article 15. The Tamil remake stars Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead role.
