Award Winning Choreographer K Sivasankar Hospitalised After Testing Positive for Covid-19; Family Seeks Financial Support

K Sivasankar, the award-winning choreographer and actor who has worked predominantly in the Tamil and Telugu film industries, has been admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad after he tested positive for Covid-19 recently.


Speaking to Silverscreen India, the choreographer’s son, Ajay Krishna, said that Sivasankar is currently on ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad. Ajay said that his father’s condition is critical as of Thursday afternoon.

“About five days back, he tested positive for the virus and he was admitted about 3-4 days back. He had not gone out anywhere. My brother has tested positive as well and is admitted at the same hospital. My mother is also Covid-positive and she is under home quarantine,” he added.

Ajay added that the family is in need of financial assistance and film personalities are coming together to help them. Actor Sonu Sood, while responding to a post on social media about Sivasankar’s condition, said that he has gotten in touch with the family and will try his best to contribute.

A noted choreographer, Sivasankar won the National Film Award for Best Choreography for his work in filmmaker SS Rajamouli‘s historical fantasy action film Magadheera (2008). This apart, he is also known for choreographing the super hit song Manmadha Rasa from the 2003 Tamil film Thiruda Thirudi starring actors Dhanush and Chaya Singh. The song was an instant hit upon its release.


Sivasankar has won four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for his work in Poove Unakkaga (1996), Vishwa Thulasi (2004), Varalaaru (2006) and Uliyin Osai (2008). Apart from choreography, Sivasankar has also acted in a few films. He shared screen space with Ajith Kumar in Varalaaru, where the latter played a classical dancer. The choreographer has also appeared in filmmaker Bala’s Paradesi (2013), Suriya-starrer Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, among other films.
