Speaking at the launch of the book Changemakers, written by authors Almas Virani and Sweta Samota, Akhtar told reporters, “This is the price the film industry has to pay for being high profile. When you’re high profile, people have fun pulling you down, throwing muck at you. If you’re a nobody, then who has the time to throw stones at you?”

The lyricist was referring to the recent arrest of Khan, son of actor Shah Rukh Khan and producer Gauri Khan, which has made headlines in the news for the past few weeks.

Akhtar also said he has not seen any headline on the recovery of cocaine worth 1 billion dollars at a port but the recovery of charas or ganja worth Rs 1.3 lakh has become national news. “You find cocaine worth Rs one billion dollars at a port and there is a small news about it in page 5-6 but somewhere else there were 1200 people where ganja and a total sum of Rs 1 lakh 30 thousand are found, according to media reports, that has become a big national news,” he added.

On September 15, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized two containers with more than 2,988kg (6,590 pounds) of heroin at Mundra Port in the western state of Gujarat after receiving intelligence they contained narcotics. The probe is still on in this case.
