Hyderabad Rains: Telugu Film Industry Contributes to Telangana Relief Fund

As Hyderabad continues to reel under one of the most devastating urban floods in over 20 years, several Telugu film industry representatives have come forward to contribute to the Telangana Chief Minister Relief Fund.

The Hindu reported that this between October 13 to the next day, Hyderabad received the second highest rainfall recorded in a duration of 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department recorded a rainfall of 19.2 cm from 8:30 am on October 13 to the next day. The official death toll stands at 50.

Many Telugu actors, including Chiranjeevi Konidela, Junior NTR, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu and Prabhas, have donated to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Relief Fund recently.

Contributing Rs 1 crore, Chiranjeevi wrote on Twitter: “The unprecedented rains in Hyderabad have caused massive devastation, loss of lives and extreme hardship to thousands. My heart goes out to those affected by nature’s fury. I’m humbly donating ₹ 1 crore to CM Relief Fund. Also appeal to all who can to come forward and help the needy.”

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan donated Rs 1 crore. In a video posted by his political party Janasena Party, he urged people to contribute to the relief fund.

Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni announced on Tuesday that he would be donating Rs 50 lakh to the Telangana government.

“Heavy rains and floods have devastated the life of people in Hyderabad. Appreciate the efforts of Telangana Govt in releasing 550 crores for immediate relief. Standing by the cause, will contribute 50 lakhs to Telangana CM relief fund,” he wrote on Twitter.

While Prabhas contributed Rs 1.5 crore, Mahesh Babu pledged Rs 1 crore and urged everyone to donate towards the cause.

“The devastation caused by the unprecedented rainfall in Telangana is far worse than we ever imagined. Appreciate the efforts of the Telangana government and the Disaster Response Force for doing their best to help the affected families,” wrote Mahesh Babu.

Actor Ravi Teja contributed Rs 10 lakh, while Junior NTR donated Rs 50 lakh for the rehabilitation of the city. He wrote, “Many lives in Hyderabad have been devastated by the rains and floods. I am contributing 50 Lakh Rupees to the Telangana CM Relief Fund towards the rehabilitation of our city. Let us all chip in and rebuild our Hyderabad #TelanganaCMO”

Vijay Deverakonda donated Rs 10 lakh and asked others to help as well.

“Its been a hard year on all of us, but those of us who are doing decently well, let’s pool in some money to help those who are not – Let’s do it one more time for our own. Today I am donating 10 Lakhs to the CMRF,” he wrote.

Filmmaker Anil Ravipudi, who directed Sarileru Neekevvaru, donated Rs 5 lakh.

“The city I live in is suffering in front my eyes due to unprecedented rains. My heart felt thanks to the front line relief workers who are striving to resuce our Hyderabad. I wish to come forward and contribute an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs towards the relief measures,” he wrote.

Director of Gaddalakonda Ganesh, Harish Shankar contributed Rs 5 lakh, while actor Ram Pothineni gave Rs 25 lakh.

Film producer Mahesh S Koneru’s East Coast Productions, sent 1,000 kg of rice and 500 blankets to Sphoorti Foundation, which is helping with the relief efforts in Hyderabad. Actor and producer Bandla Ganesh contributed Rs 5 lakh to support Hyderabad.
