Following the death of the victim, Rajesh Dhoot, late Tuesday night, DN Nagar police have added section 304-A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code to the FIR registered against the actor, an official told PTI.

The police had earlier registered a case against Bedi under IPC sections 279 (Negligent driving) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).

However, according to the report, the actor has not yet been arrested.

Milind Kurde, a senior police officer, had earlier said on Tuesday that the actor had admitted the resident of DN Nagar to the nearby Cooper Hospital after hitting him with his car. “Rajat Bedi himself was driving the car and hit a man named Rajesh Dhoot, when he was crossing the road last evening. Immediately, the actor got the victim admitted to the nearby Cooper Hospital in Mumbai,” he had said.

Bedi’s manager spoke to ETimes after the demise of Dhoot and said that the actor and his friends have been helping out the victim’s family. She further stated that the “unfortunate incident” was not Bedi’s fault. “Mr Rajesh suddenly came in front of Rajat’s car. He was fully drunk, near Andheri West Metro station. Rajat himself immediately took him to Cooper Hospital after the accident and extended all possible help and support to him – arranged for blood in the night at 3.30 am and supported his family. Sadly, he passed away. Rajat had been praying for his recovery and Mr Rajesh’s sudden demise has left him shattered,” she told the publication.

“Rajat’s friend Suresh has been with the family throughout and helped them with all medicines, treatment, financial help and did his last rituals, too. Rajat is cooperating with the authorities and also consulting his team as to how to proceed,” she further added.

Bedi has acted in several films, including the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Koi…Mil Gaya and Salman Khan’s Partner.
