Rajinikanth Says ‘No Plans To Enter Politics’, Dissolves Rajini Makkal Mandram

Rajinikanth Felicitates Writer Kalaignanam

Quashing all rumours about his political entry, actor Rajinikanth announced that Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM), his official fan club which was expected to his political launchpad, will be dissolved and clarified that he has no intention to join politics in the future, in a statement issued on Monday.

Announcing his decision, the actor’s statement also mentioned that the members of RMM will continue their public welfare deeds as before under the name of Rajinikanth Rasigar Narpani Mandram.

“When I announced that I will not be able to join politics, questions regarding the role of Rajini Makkal Mandram arose among the members of RMM and my fans. It is my duty to answer these questions. We changed the name of Rajinikanth Rasigar Narpani Mandram to Rajini Makkal Mandram, and created several designations on a state and district level, with the aim of forming a political party. Due to circumstances, we could not do so. I have no intention to join politics in the future. I would like to announce that we have decided to dissolve RMM. The existing members of the organisation will continue to perform public welfare deeds through Rajinikanth Rasigar Narpani Mandram as before,” the actor’s statement read.

In December 2020, Rajinikanth had announced that he would launch a political party in January. He also promised that his party would establish a “corruption-free” government that would be free of religious and caste-based discrimination. However, later that month, the actor announced that he would not be forming a political party and would not join politics due to his precarious health condition.

When requests poured in from the actor’s fans asking him to change his decision, in January, RMM issued a statement that said its members were free to join any political party after tendering their resignation from RMM. The statement came a day after three district secretaries and a few senior functionaries of the RMM joined the DMK party.
