“My sister Malvika wants to serve the people of Punjab. She has expressed her wish to contest the Punjab polls next year. She wants to return the love and respect that people have showered on our family always. She is prepared to take this next step and her commitment is unparalleled. Doing sewa is the core value of Punjabiyat, which we siblings have grown up with here. The most basic example of this is serving langar (community kitchen),” said Sood, as per Indian Express.

However, it is unclear which party Sachar will make her political debut with.

According to the report, the announcement followed Sood’s meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, last week.

Sachar is associated with Sood’s ‘Sood Charity Foundation’ that came in the limelight for providing aid and assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic-induced lockdown in March 2020.

During the press conference, held at his residence on Sunday, Sood emphasized on education, healthcare, and employment as the major issues that need focus. “Our only motive is to change the lives of the people who are needy and underprivileged. Healthcare will be our top priority, saving someone’s life is the most important,” he said.

Speaking about the possibility of him making a political entry, Sood said “First, it is important to support Malvika as she is connected to our roots in Moga. I will reveal my own plans later.”

In September, allegations of tax evasion and illegal funding were leveled against Sood and his foundation, and his Mumbai house was  searched for three days in a row by the Income Tax department. According to the authorities, Sood Charity Foundation also raised Rs 2.1 crore from overseas donors using a crowdfunding platform that violated the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act that governs these kinds of transactions.

The actor, who is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film Prithviraj with Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar, denied the allegations and said that all necessary documents were provided to the department.
