Veteran Malayalam Actor Kozhikode Sharada Dies after Cardiac Arrest

Kozhikode Sharada, the veteran Malayalam actor, died on Tuesday morning at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital in Kerala after suffering a cardiac arrest, OnManorama reported.

After she complained of difficulty in breathing, Sharada was admitted to the government hospital on Monday night where she worked as a nursing assistant for 27 years, says the report. She suffered a cardiac arrest the following morning.

The late actor, who was from Velliparamba in Kozhikode, Kerala, has acted in over 100 films and television serials in a career spanning over four decades. She began her acting career as a theatre artist and made her debut in Malayalam films with the 1979 film Angakkuri. She had appeared in several of late Malayalam filmmaker I. V. Sasi’s films such as Anubandham, Nalkavla, among others in the 1980s.

Other films that Sharada appeared in over the years include Kutty Srank, Sadayam, Nandanam, Ammakilikkoodu, Sallapam, Utsava Pittenu, Yugapurushan, Kilichundan Mampazham and Ennu Ninte Moidheen among many others.

Sharada last appeared in Sreevalsan J Menon’s short film Jara.

Several members of the Malayalam film fraternity paid tributes to the late actor on social media.

Expressing his condolences, Saji Cherian, Kerala’s minister for Kerala State Film Development Corporation, wrote, “Kozhikode Sharada, who captured audience’s love through theatre, was later active in television shows and movies. She has acted in about 90 movies.”

The Women in Cinema Collective wrote, “WCC pays our tribute and respect for the versatile artist Kozhikode Sharada. An acting career that spanned over 4 decades, this home grown artist has carved many timeless characters with her craft and created moments that will stay timeless. Respect.”

Sharada is survived by her children Umada, Rajitha, Sajeev and Sreejith.
