Yashika Aannand, the Tamil actor, who met with an accident near Chennai on Saturday night, has regained consciousness after undergoing surgery successfully, the actor’s sister Osheen Anand confirmed on social media on Monday.
However, she remains in the Intensive Care Unit, her sister added.
On Saturday, Aannand was traveling back to Chennai from Puducherry and was in a car on the East Coast Road near Mahabalipuram with three of her friends. One of them, Valli Chetty Bhavani, died on the spot after the car veered out of control and hit a central median. Aannand and her friends were rescued by passers-by and commuters who brought them to the emergency care unit in Poonjeri.
Aannand has since been admitted to Apollo hospital in Chennai.
Giving an update about her sister’s health, Osheen Anand put up an Instagram story that read: “Hello everyone, thank you for your prayers. Yashika Aannand is conscious now and one of her surgery is done successfully by god’s grace. She is currently in ICU and further surgeries for her multiple fractures will be done in a few days. Please keep praying for her.”
The Mahabalipuram police have charged the actor with rash driving, and are investigating the accident. Bhavani’s remains have been sent to Chengalpet hospital for an autopsy.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Mahabalipuram Police Station writer Bharath, said, “Yashika Aannand was returning from Pondicherry along with her friends. They were on ECR when the accident was caused due to overspeeding. She lost control of the vehicle and it turned and hit the median. She was not under the influence of alcohol.”

The official added that three cases have been booked against the actor for rash driving and overspeeding that caused death due to negligence. “As of now, she is injured and in the ICU, but she will be brought in for investigation soon, at which time her driving license will be seized,” he said.
On the work front, Aannand’s upcoming projects include Raja Bheema and Ivan Than Uthaman, among others. The actor, who shot to fame with her stint on the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil, also recently wrapped up the shooting for her upcoming Tamil film Kadamaiyai Sei, opposite SJ Suryah.
