Actor Yashika Aannand Critically Injured in Car Crash, Friend Dies on the Spot

Yashika Aannand, the actor who participated in Bigg Boss Tamil and more recently appeared in the film Kavalai Vendam, met with an accident on Saturday night, Sun TV reported. The actor is currently admitted to a private hospital in Chennai.

Aannand was traveling back to Chennai and was on the East Coast Road near Mahabalipuram with three of her friends. One of them, Valli Chetty Bhavani, died on the spot after the car veered out of control and hit a central median, according to a Times of India report.

Bhavani, 28, a software engineer from Hyderabad who was working in USA had returned to India last week to meet some friends in Chennai, as per a DNA report.

Bhavani, Aannand, and two others whose identity is yet to be disclosed, were rescued by passers-by and commuters who brought them to the emergency care unit in Poonjeri.

The Mahabalipuram police have charged the actor with rash driving, and are investigating the accident. Meanwhile, Bhavani’s body has been sent to Chengalpet hospital for an autopsy, India Today reported.

Aannand recently wrapped up the shooting for her upcoming Tamil film Kadamaiyai Sei, opposite SJ Suryah. The actor, who works in both Tamil and Telugu language films, also appeared in Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman and Vijay Deverakonda’s bilingual film NOTA.

Co-star SJ Suryah wished her speedy recovery in a note on Twitter.

Aannand’s breakthrough came in 2016 with the Tamil film Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. She appeared in other projects like Paadam (2018), Maniyaar Kudumbam (2018), Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu (2018), and Zombie (2019), in which she played the lead.

She also appeared in the second season of the reality television show Bigg Boss Tamil, which was hosted by Kamal Haassan, and finished in the fifth place.

Her upcoming projects include Raja Bheema and Ivan Than Uthaman, among others.
