TV Actor Karan Mehra Gets Bail After Wife Nisha Rawal Accuses Him of Domestic Abuse

Karan Mehra, the TV actor best known for his role as Naitik in the Hindi daily soap Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Tuesday and later granted bail after his wife, Nisha Rawal, accused him of assaulting her and hurting her head, reported ANI.

Reacting to the complaint, Mehra said that Rawal herself banged her head against a wall in their apartment and threatened to “ruin” him after they failed to agree on alimony.

Mehra and Rawal had earlier filed for divorce.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Mehra said, “Nisha barged into my bedroom, as we have been sleeping in separate bedrooms since a while. She began shouting and abusing my family, told me, ‘I will ruin your life’, spat on me. I calmly told her not to behave in this manner and to go back to her bedroom. I didn’t want to talk right then. I got up to go into the bathroom when she suddenly banged her head on the wall and said, Ab dekho kya hota hai. Actually, Nisha has mood swings and a violent anger streak. She would throw stuff and hit herself and others. Five-six years ago, she was diagnosed as bipolar. People, including our friends and relatives, have seen her behaviour in public and I couldn’t take it anymore.”

Admitting that she suffers from bipolar disorder in a press conference on Tuesday, Rawal said, “In September 2014, I was five months pregnant and I lost my child. Recently, I made a group for mothers where women, who lost their children, can speak about it, as when I lost my child I did not have anyone to talk to about the loss. I wanted to go to my parents and talk to them because it was a very big trauma for me. In the middle of it, my husband was beating me up, abusing me, he was unavailable, totally detached and that is when I went to a therapist. In fact, Karan had stopped me from going to a therapist, he did not let me go to a gym, he was very controlling.”

She accused Mehra of having an extramarital affair.

Fashion designer Rohit K Verma shared a photo of Rawal, who is seen bleeding from her head, on social media.

“I have been seeing her silently suffer for years finally she decided to let out her cry for help and stand for herself and child. A far cry for help from a friend,” Verma wrote on Instagram.

Mehra and Rawal married in November 2012 after dating for some years. They have a son, Kavish, who was born in 2017.
