Preview: The Bangalore Queer Film Festival (BQFF) 2017

The ninth edition of the Bangalore Queer Film Festival (BQFF) begins on February 24. The three-day fest will showcase queer movies, exhibitions, and performances from all over the world. 58 movies (from 25 countries) will be screened at the event. “There are many submissions from the Indian contingent this time. A number of experimental films that are radical in terms of concept,” Namita, one of the organisers, tells Silverscreen. The list of movies to be screened will soon be updated on the official website.

The festival will begin at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan on February 24 (featuring a performance by singer Suman Sridhar), and will move on to Alliance Francaise de Bangalore.

The BQFF is organised by Good As You (GAY) – one of the oldest LGBT support communities in India, We Are Her (a Bangalore-based queer women community), and Pirat Dykes (a group that screens films that do not get a theatrical release in the country).

The festival – open to all, with registrations taking place at the venues – is crowd-funded. Visit to contribute.
