What’s making the news

Prakash Raj, who attended an event in Bengaluru to commemorate the 56th birth anniversary of slain journalist Gauri Lankesh said that her voice has not been silenced but has gotten louder, reported The News Minute.

“Gauri is inside all of us. History has told us that when those who speak for society, and against injustice die, their voice isn’t silenced. It sprouts new voices like trees,” he said at the event which was attended by Teesta Satalvad, Irom Sharmila, Jignesh Mevani, Kanhaiya Kumar and many others.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, the actor called out a fake statement attributed to him and said, “By spreading such lies…instead of debating my views…you are proving to the world…how frustrated..desperate..and the cheap levels you can stoop down.”

Meanwhile, Padmaavat is banned from release in Malaysia. On the reason behind the ban, Malaysia’s National Film Censorship Board said, “The storyline of the film touches on the sensitivities of Islam. That in itself is a matter of grave concern in Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country,” reported Variety.

Kate Winslet, who was honored at the London Critics’ Circle film awards on Sunday, said, “As women around the world and from all walks of life marched last weekend… I realised that I wouldn’t be able to stand here this evening and keep to myself some bitter regrets that I have about poor decisions to work with individuals with whom I wish I had not.” She added that by remaining silent she has deepened the anguish of the men and women who have faced sexual harassment.

The Academy Award winning actress has worked with Harvey Weinstein in the past and more recently with Woody Allen in the Wonder Wheel.
