Of Cricket and TR: The Aadama Jaichomada Audio Launch Report

Silverscreen goes to the Aadama Jaichomada audio launch...

At the Aadama Jaichomada audio launch, right from the jokes that were cracked to the entertainment that was staged, everything complemented the film’s theme: cricket. A mini cricket field was set up at the entrance, where guests wielded a bat for a minute, pulled on cricketer-like expressions, and posed for shutter-bugs.

And unlike other audio launches that we have attended in the past, this event featured a mime show that was presented by G Mime Studios. The mime team beautifully enacted the crux of the story, which is about betting in the game of cricket. Composer Sean Roldan has debuted as a lyricist in the movie; and in addition to scoring music, he has penned and lent his voice to the song Odura Nari. The song is quite catchy and we couldn’t get this particular line out of our heads:

Sweetu vikkum kadaiyile, jaangiri kettu pochey…

Actor Shiva has written the dialogues for Aadama Jaichomada. The actor-turned-writer was roped in by director Badri, who had previously worked with him in Thillu Mullu. Shiva explained that the flick is light-hearted. “The hero proposes to the heroine. She accepts, but has a condition: that they install a toilet in the house only for her use. She hails from a humble background, and has been using public toilets all her life.”

As Shiva narrated the plot, someone in the audience responded with a popular dialogue from Kamal Haasan’s Singara Velan: Idhu allavo latchiyam!

Aadama Jaichomada features an ensemble cast of Karunakaran, Bobby Simhaa, Balaji, Naren and Vijayalakshmi. KS Ravikumar and Radha Ravi make a special appearance. Karunakaran couldn’t attend the audio launch as he was shooting for Rajinikanth’s Lingaa, and Bobby Simha and the entire team chose to utter only a couple of words on stage. Because they were well aware that T Rajendar was the special guest and that a long, dramatic speech was in store for us.

Bhagyaraj, Sundar C (Badri’s guru), Vemal, Krishna Kulasekaran and Srikanth spoke quite hurriedly; and soon enough, T Rajendar hijacked the event. He delivered a free-ranging speech. Five minutes into it, Rajendar turned to the publicist to confirm how much time he had left. And, on learning that he had 20 minutes, he took a huge gulp of water, and continued with vehemence. In his inimitable style, Rajendar spoke of the Tamil film industry, practices that he detested, talented artistes, pretentious actors and about his active years in cinema. He even talked about his way of filmmaking and principles; winning sporadic, but loud applause for his usual edhugai-monai (rhymes).

Sample this: “Medai-la nikkuren nalla, adhukku karanam Allah!”

Unfortunately, a foot-in-the-mouth situation soon arose when he let slip that he hated wearing hats. “I love to flaunt my hair. I don’t use a wig. When I sport such a great hairstyle, why should I wear a hat!” he exclaimed. But when he realised that Bhagyaraj, who wears a cap all the time, was also on stage, Rajendar apologised and threw another rhyme to ease the situation.

“Mudi irukkuravan kodhuvan, mudi illadhavan nalla modhuvan!”

Rajendar finally concluded with a line about the Aadama Jaichomada trailer. He quite liked way it has been cut, he said.
