Over a Cuppa Acid: The Kappal Single Launch Report

Audio launches are usually held at fancy hotels and big studios. But Oru Cup Acid, a track from Kappal, was launched at the Express Avenue Mall last Sunday. It was a refreshing change for regulars like us to watch the event amidst enthusiastic Deepavali-shoppers, dancing babies and voracious selfie-takers.

When the stars arrived, shopping came to a standstill. It’s not every time that you bump into Shankar, Sivakarthikeyan, Vaibhav, Karunakaran, Madhan Karky, VTV Ganesh, Karthik Subbaraj and Atlee while shopping. Or listen to the talented band, Staccato performing numbers from Shankar’s films.

So, the Oru Cup Acid event was a shoppers’ delight.

And as always, we captured the launch as it was happening on Twitter. A recap here:

Warming up.

Sivakarthikeyan and Madhan Karky couldn’t stop raving about this band. We overheard, okay.

Karunakaran does this. Everytime.

We wanted to intervene since they took long to arrive at a decision. But it was a cute paasa sandai.

The power of Ganesh’s voice.

Sivakarthikeyan confides: “Vaibhav pesa maataan. And pasanga kitta pesave maataan.”

Oru cup acid eduththu, ice pottu kudipiyaa nee
Transformer mela poi, thala vechu padupiyaa
Aadu-nu tag-a maatikittu, kasaappu kadaiyila nuzhaiyiruyae

Karky’s signature style.

It was quite convenient to call it a ‘flying-fan’. The event manager preferred the term ‘helicam’, though.

The moment when we realised that sitting next to those massive speakers was a huge mistake.

The gentlemen had so much to discuss. Was it an impromptu story discussion? We would never know.

Staccato again. Did we tell you we love them?

A dedication to Thalaivar.

Shankar, who has bought the distribution rights Kappal, then released the track.

When Karunakaran returned to work at 5.30 am the morning after his wedding. Dinesh master, adding insult to injury, was all set to make him dance.

When he does speak, Vaibhav Reddy says the right things. Well, almost.

Atlee doesn’t miss an opportunity, we think. Shankar laughs in response.

All about Thiru-Ganesh-kural.

And yes, we loved the performance.
