Kishore Kumar, fondly called Kishore Da, passed away in 1987, but he is still a hot favourite among the masses, thanks to his inimitable style of singing. Born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly in West Bengal, Kishore da started his career as an actor in Shikari in 1946. His singing career was launched in 1948 when he sang for director Khemchand Prakash.
He has sung in Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Odia, and Urdu, and has won eight Film Fare awards in his career spanning 1948 to 1984. A number of songs featuring actor Rajesh Khanna were sung by Kishore Kumar, and the actor’s superstardom had a lot to do with Kishore Da‘s voice.
