Daniel Craig To Come Back As James Bond After Much Will He, Won’t He

After a prolonged will-he-won’t-he debate, fans of James Bond can breathe a sigh of relief as Daniel Craig has confirmed that he will return as the secret agent one more time, according to the BBC report.

The actor had previously asserted that he’d rather slash his wrists than return for one more film. Speculative pieces about the next possible Bond were copiously written and actors like Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Benedict Cumberbatch were touted as potential candidates.

Meanwhile, Craig was said to be the first choice of Bond producers, who did not want to launch a search for the next Bond at this time. And so, Craig it is.

For one last time. Or so the actor said, in a recent interview with TV host Stephen Colbert:

“I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note and I can’t wait,” he said.

While the next Bond movie will come out only in 2019, the question of who will be the next Bond still remains. Here’s another list of actors who could play the role of 007 with aplomb. And why not.

Vikram

Vikram as a gun-toting spy — that’s not hard to imagine, given that he plays the exact same character in Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram. Vikram will bring in the much-needed gravitas and grey hair that the Bond universe needs right now.

Yash

The brash young Kannada actor brings with him that aggressive swagger that Bond producers look for in potential leads.

Rana Daggubati

If the recent Nene Raju Nene Mantri was any indication, then Daggubati is the perfect sort to play a slightly complex Bond character. That is if the producers are looking to deviate from the norm.

Tom Hiddleston

Hiddleston is a little too eager to play Bond and that may eventually work against him, but his acting skills and that quintessential British charm means that he’s kind of ideal to take on the role. Plus, he’s got Marvel on his side. So you never know how that might factor in to the final decision.

Arjun Rampal

Rampal is the Craig of Bonds. He looks a little craggy, a little frayed around the edges and sort of perpetually tired — a look that would work well if the Bond film’s next director decides to take the film in a more serious, existential crisis sort of direction. Plus, Rampal has former supermodel written all over him, and so, an easy sell to the audiences.

Sushmita Sen

Suave, charming and the sort of woman who’d probably hide a Glock under her saree blouse, Sen will blow the villains away with her wonderful sense of humour and that bomb she surreptitiously slips into their bags. And really, isn’t it time for a female Bond?

Idris Elba

Elba’s got everything going for him and has a sizable fan base who’d love to see him as the next Bond. A campaign to make him the next Bond is already underway; and it may just get Elba the coveted role.

Tom Hardy

Hardy is a chameleon of an actor who has won acclaim for roles in The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road and the recent Dunkirk. With his casting, the Bond franchise, which has been accused of making the easy choice when it comes to casting its male lead, can be redeemed.

Michael Fassbender

Fassbender has proved himself in superhero films, and so the transition from a spandex suit to just a regular suit wouldn’t be all too difficult.
