In Theatres This Friday: Chandi Veeran Vs Selvandhan

muraliAtharvaa quite seems like his father in the trailer of Chandi Veeran. All that is missing is Murali’s slick crop in place of those wild tousles. Also perhaps, some checked shirts, instead of solid colours. Chandi Veeran features a well-muscled, aruva-wielding Atharvaa courting Anandhi (such blessed relief to see her smile after Kayal) from atop a cycle, amidst tractors, a few dozen warring villagers, and some cacti (here at 1:21).

Then, there’s the final shot – nobly intended, of course – to provide the chills: of Atharvaa wielding an aruva taller than himself – toned body in sharp relief – and a look of murderous rage about him, eerily reminiscent of Murali.

A D V E R T I S E M E N T

Set to a matching, deadly score.

To think, Atharvaa – not so long ago – did all his courting atop a Ducati, in the scenic locales of Italy and Pondicherry, riding alongside Alisha Abdullah – India’s first female racing champion.

Diverse, indeed.

Directed by A Sarkunam, whose previous outing was Naiyyandi (2013) with Dhanush and Nazriya Nazim.
