Kakki Sattai Preview: Tough Chase

Kakki Sattai has Sivakarthikeyan donning the khakis for the first time – an emotional experience for the actor whose late father was in the police force. The action film sees the return of the Ethir Neechal hit team Sivakarthikeyan – director Durai Senthilkumar – Anirudh Ravichander, and of course, actor Dhanush who’s the producer this time around too. The movie took one and a half years to make, the team having started production on the day of Ethir Neechal’s release. Durai, we hear, wrote the script of Kakki Sattai with Dhanush in mind for the lead role, but when that didn’t happen, he tailored it to fit Sivakarthikeyan. With Anirudh’s energetic music and some cool cinematography by M Sukumar, the film, which hits the screens on February 27, has become one of the most anticipated in recent times, mainly due to Sivakarthikeyan’s year long absence from the Tamil screens (his last solo release was Maan Karate in April 2014)

Kakki Sattai has also managed to clear the censors with a U. So you know you can safely take your children along.

Or better, leave them at home.

The movie was originally called Taana, but the name was later changed as the producers wanted something that “..could connect with the audience effortlessly.” Though we have to say, we liked Taanaa the best.

Noisy, isn’t it?

Though the title has been borrowed from this famous Kamal Haasan – Ambika movie, the new age Kakki Sattai has little to do with it. So, don’t walk in hoping to see an undercover cop infiltrate a mafia gang. Nor will it be a Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam just because Sri Divya will be donning the half saree here and there. It’s her second flick with Sivakarthikeyan, by the way.

This also happens to be the second Durai Senthil Kumar film which has its title borrowed from an old Tamil superhit. The first being Ethir Neechal. Now, you get it, don’t you?

Pattukkottai Prabhakar has penned the script for Kakki Sattai along with the director RS Durai Senthil Kumar. Bharath and Susheela might not make an appearance in the movie (or will they?), but expect some solid detective work, says Prabhakar.

The music was unveiled on December 12, the birthday of Superstar Rajinikanth.

Kadhal Kan Kattudhe was shot in Norway in 2014. The video song was released by the team earlier this week and boasts some beautiful visuals. Also, Shakthishree Gopalan’s mellifluous vocals.

Prabhu plays mentor to Sivakarthikeyan in the film we hear. Any film with Prabhu in it is going to be good. You know that.

In news of the best kind, Kalpana plays Siva’s mother in the movie; and what little we’ve seen of her in the trailer, tells us that her portions are going to be super fun.

Siva has gone through a makeover of sorts for this role. The carefully unshaven look has been replaced by a handlebar moustache that is all kinds of fierce.

A more polished Sri Divya can be seen, too. Gone are the days where she played plain ‘village belle’ roles. In Kakki Sattai, she’s all barely there make-up and designer wear.
