Yash At The 'KGF' Press Meet In Chennai

The hype around this film franchise hasn’t been witnessed before in Kannada cinema. A big-budget extravaganza crafted by a Kannada team that also went multi-lingual, KGF is the regional film industry’s pride. Starring Yash, Srinidhi Shetty, Vasista Simha and Malavika Avinash, among others, KGF went on to become a film with the highest opening in the history of the Kannada film industry. With a total gross of over Rs 250 crore in 50 days, it found itself in the eighth place among the highest grossers in South Indian cinema.  The movie even went on to win two National Awards – one for special effects and one for stunt choreography.

With actor Sanjay Dutt playing the role of Adheera in KGF: Chapter 2, the buzz around the franchise has shot up. With Dutt making an announcement that he even wants to dub for the Kannada version, fans in Karnataka are thrilled about their industry’s growing market. This film marks Dutt’s return to playing antagonist, seven years after Agneepath. Adheera is the brother of Suryavardhan, who illegally built the gold mining empire, more of which we will see in the sequel.

The film depicts the story of an ambitious Rocky (Yash) who is born into poverty but wants to conquer the world and achieve greatness. A few weeks ago, the filming of KGF: Chapter 2 in Cyanide Hills, Kolar Gold Mines, was banned by a Kolar court, after a resident filed a complaint against the makers for damaging the environment. The team then shifted the shoot to Hyderabad and Bengaluru. But, now, the Karnataka High Court has allowed shooting till the next date of hearing.

Sanjay Dutt has just started shooting for the film in Hyderabad and director Prashanth Neel shared pictures of himself with ‘Adheera’, with the message ‘Let’s see how this epic story ends’. KGF 2, which is expected to release in 2020, will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

It was recently announced that actor Saran Shakti of Vada Chennai fame is set to star in the sequel. Saran, who spoke to us a few days before his shoot with Dutt in Hyderabad, is super thrilled to have bagged this significant role. The Chennai lad has already shot a part of his scenes in Kolar Gold Fields, and also his scenes with leading man Yash.

“The director was impressed by my performance in Vada Chennai and got in touch. I still can’t believe I’m acting in such a huge film. Yash sir was super sweet and spoke to me in Tamil. He took me for a stroll, motivated me to do well and told me that my character was important,” says an elated Saran, who’s already wrapped up about 80 per cent of his work.

The film’s leading lady Srinidhi Shetty has shared a bunch of stories on Instagram showcasing her different shoot days on the KGF 2 sets. About three weeks ago, she posted that it was pack-up time for her. Veteran actor Anant Nag, who plays Anand Ingalagi, the narrator, seems to be everyone’s favourite. Prashanth recently shared photos of Anant Nag with the crew, and stated that the actor automatically becomes a teacher and the cast and crew turn disciples when he’s around.
