This Week in Tamil Cinema: January 5, 2015

2015 is here and it’s been a glorious first week.

Ajith Kumar finally showed the public and his fans the slick trailer of his Yennai Arindhaalputting to rest all those memes about thin lines. We also got to speak to Ajith’s Vaali co-star Simran, who told us that she wouldn’t mind grooving to Althotta Boopathy all over again. Come to think of it, neither would we.

In other news, we learnt that Yuvan Shankar Raja is the kind of guy who likes to be married on New Year’s Day. The young music composer’s third trip to the altar wasn’t graced by his daddy dearest, Ilaiyaraaja or his brother, Karthik Raja. So to help celebrate Yuvan’s wedding, we quickly put together a list of wedding themed songs from the repertoire of Ilaiyaraaja. Because, we’re nice like that.

Also, the end of the year is usually the time for reflection on the months gone-by, and other such endeavours. So, reflect, we did. And came up with a definitive list of all things fun and super cool. In Breakout Artistes, we compiled a list of talents that broke barriers in Tamil cinema; Dangamaari lyricist Rokesh and Justin Prabhakaran rubbed shoulders with Vaali and Pa Vijay in our list of the year’s best lyrics.

We also put together another list detailing film celebrities and their gaffes onstage – because no one should grow up with a complex and it’s not always a fairy-tale. Plus, we managed to include Samantha Ruth Prabhu and her bikini act in a slideshow about 2014’s dud films (just the title, but hey, it counts!).

On the photos front, Pooja Umashankar graced our main page again as she laughed, pranced and posed for b6j9-ukcaaa8fg8.jpgour shutterbug at a salon launch. Not to be missed are our beautiful photos of the Swappnam dance recital, which features the music of Ilaiyaraaja.
