Tamil Features

This Week in Tamil Cinema: July 5, 2015

Last week was full of frantic activity. The Metro rail was launched officially; Doctor’s day was celebrated; Ashna’s favourite designers were revealed and Ajith Kumar even sent out his latest photoshoot. All significant events, but they did pale by comparison to Friday’s show. Papanasam hit the screens and it was glorious. Comparisons to Mahanadhi aside, the film proved to be a showcase for the thespian‘s acting talents. Director Jeethu Joseph too, was a delight to interview. The storyteller made us all feel like we were sipping tea at the Madhatter’s party. Wonderful, indeed.

Also in the running was Vivek’s Palakkattu Madhavan, which (unsurprisingly) proved to be a rather sexist and regressive movie, Sonia Agarwal and Sheela’s presence notwithstanding.

On the images front, Karthika Nair and Bobby Simha came out dressed to the nines – fodder for our awesome photographers. Also interesting is our special birthday feature for Chinnappa Thevar. The go-getter had quirks to fill a hundred pages; but we valiantly tried to whittle it down to five.
