This Week in Tamil Cinema: November 24, 2014

Lingaa Song TeasersSuperstar Rajinikanth reigned supreme this month. The audio of Lingaa was launched, its trailer was released and enough pictures were shot to make all Thalaivar fans happy. Also big was the launch of Anegan‘s audio with actors Dhanush and Karthik Muthuraman sharing the stage. Kamal Haasan turned sixty, launched a campaign close to his heart, and had a press meet about it. It rained men this month.

Also, the city was all moody and grey, giving us the perfect backdrop for our pictures of Nikesha Patel and Iyshwarya Rajesh. We also got to rub shoulders with Bala and Mysskin at a press meet for Pisaasu, just an hour after we watched Kamal Haasan release a book.

Madras director Pa Ranjith – he of the unsullied and realisActor Vijay Sethupathi at Tamil Film Industry Hunger Striketic cinema – spoke to us and told us why he makes the kind of films he does. We also interviewed the busiest actor in the industry – Thambi Ramaiah – who had a great time telling us punch lines, while Thirudan Police actress Iyshwarya Rajesh brought her biting humour to our interview.

Vijay Sethupathi was in the news this month for all wrong reasons. His dispute with RK Suresh made headlines, and things took an ugly turn. With his latest release, Vanmam not doing too well at the box office, it’s safe to assume that the star is not having the best of times right now. In contrast, canine star Idoh made a dazzling Tamil film debut with Naaigal Jaakirathai, and is already drawing in a lot of movie offers, we hear. The most successful so far seems to be the comedy film Thirudan Police with Attakathi Dinesh delivering a stellar performance.
