In Theatres This Friday: Baahubali

The most expensive Indian film hits the screens this week. Baahubali, an epic drama fuelled by the vision of SS Rajamouli and the many talents of Prabhas, Rana, Anushka, Tamannaah etc, is gearing up to create magic on the big screen. With the likes of Sathyaraj, Nasser and Ramya Krishnan adding their star power to the mix, it just might make the cut. Produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni, the film releases in four major Indian languages – Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

The trailer clues us in on the film’s plot – something about the hero’s path to self discovery, interspersed with a beautiful shot of Tamannaah running away near a waterfall. Also, Sathyaraj in medieval armour. If that’s not going to make you spend a couple of hundred bucks on tickets, we don’t know what will.

Also cool is the fact that Rajamouli has brought in some famous producers to present his film. Karan Johar lends his celebrity support for the Hindi version while KE Gnanavel Raja pitches in for the Tamil one. Interestingly, this film was quite the learning experience for everybody involved. Rana and Prabhas tried their hand at horse riding; Tamannaah is said to have attempted some acting; Anushka…well, she didn’t need to learn a thing. She’s quite badass that way.

Rajamouli has retained his core technical team for this one as well – KK Senthil Kumar takes on the cinematography duties while MM Keeravani does the music. The latest addition to the team is Madhan Karky, who will be penning the Tamil dialogues.
