It’s a mixed bag this week. In Tamil, there is Trisha’s much-delayed horror-thriller Mohini and Vijay Sethupathi’s gangster comedy Junga, while multi-starrer Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 is this week’s major Bollywood release. Romantic thriller Maradona, starring Tovino Thomas, is releasing in Malayalam.
Unlike other dons in Tamil cinema, Vijay Sethupathi plays a goofy “budget” don in Junga. This don slays villains, mouths punchlines, romances but is also a goofball. Produced by Arun Pandian, the film also stars Sayyeshaa, Madona Sebastian, Saranya Ponvannan, Yogi Babu, Suresh Menon and others.
The film is directed by Gokul, he had earlier worked with Sethupathi in Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara. The film’s music is composed by Siddharth Vipin and the lyrics are by Lalit Anand. On the film, the director had earlier said, “It’s about the life of a young man who comes from a budget family from Chennai’s Parrys and later goes to Paris. The film was shot in various foreign locations such as Paris, Azerbaijan, Austria and Georgia.”
Directed by R Madesh, Mohini is a horror thriller starring Trisha in the lead. Far from her girl-next-door image, Trisha plays a woman whose body dies but not her soul. She will be seen in a double role. This film marks Trisha’s third venture in the genre after Aranmanai and Nayagi. The film also stars Bollywood actor Jackky Bhagnani, Yogi Babu, Suresh, and Poornima Bhagyaraj. The team said it has tried to introduce a concept called ‘epigenetics’, which supplements the horror angle with logic and science.
Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3
Actor Sanjay Dutt plays the lead in the third installment of Tigmanshu Dhulia’s gangster franchise – Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster. The film is an action thriller dealing with conspiracy, greed and lust. It revolves around a royal family of Uttar Pradesh.
The first Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster film had Randeep Hooda playing a gangster; while in 2013, the role was played by Irrfan Khan.
The film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Chitrangada Singh, Mahie Gill, Soha Ali Khan and Deepak Tijori. The music has been scored by Dharma Vish. “I have never played such a character. This is different from Vaastav or Kaante. This gangster is an educated person who lives far away from his family and wants love in his life,” Dutt told IANS.
Actor Tovino Thomas has lately been experimenting with different kinds of roles. After the unimpressive Abhiyum Anuvum, he will now be seen in Maradona. The film is Vishnu Narayanan’s first directorial venture, who was earlier an associate of Dileesh Pothan, Aashiq Abu and Sameer Thahir. Maradona is a romantic thriller, and a newcomer named Sharanya is paired opposite Tovino. Chemban Vinod Jose, Leona Lishoy, Tito Wilson and Kichu Tellus play prominent roles in the movie and the music is by Sushin Shyam.
In an earlier interview with Silverscreen, Tovino Thomas talking about his choice of films, said, “I choose a script if I feel I have something good to do, and also, if I find the team interesting. For me, the process of filming is as important as how the film turns out to be. That experience is important.”
