Weekend Watch: Kolamaavu Kokila, Odu Raja Odu, Annanukku Jey Are The Tamil Releases This Week

While Gold, Satyameva Jayate and Geetha Govindam released on August 15, there are three Tamil films – Kolamaavu Kokila, Odu Raja Odu and Annanukku Jey – slated to release this Friday. Malayalam film Kayamkulam Kochunni, starring Nivin Pauly and Mohanlal, was also scheduled to release, however, reports suggest that due to the severe flood situation in Kerala, the film will most likely to be postponed. There is no official announcement on it yet.

Kolamaavu Kokila

Kolamaavu Kokila is by debut director Nelson Dhilipkumar. The film revolves around Kokila, played by Nayanthara, who’s forced to smuggle cocaine (as the name kolamaavu suggests) because of her strained familial background. As an organised drug cartel begins to unravel, Kokila finds herself deep in the nexus. A dark comedy with edgy music from Anirudh Ravichander, the film also stars Saranya Ponvannan, Yogi Babu and Rajendran.

The curiosity for this film is naturally high as this is Nayanthara’s first major film after last year’s Aramm.

Odu Raja Odu

Directed by Nishanth and Jatin, Odu Raja Odu revolves around a newly married couple and how a set top box wreaks havoc in their lives. The dark comedy features Guru Somasundaram of Joker fame and Lakshmi Priyaa who was seen in the widely appreciated short film Lakshmi.

Talking about the film, the director duo told Deccan Chronicle, “It tells the story of three sets of characters and a comedy of errors leading to disastrous consequences for some and victory for others.” Going by the trailer, the film is expected to have elements of suspense, emotion, action, and black comedy.

The film also has Nasser playing an important role, while Anandsami, Ashiqa Salvan, Ravindra Vijay, Abishek, Vonod and Powerstar Srinivasan will be seen in supporting roles.

Annanukku Jey

Starring Dinesh in the lead, Annanukku Jey is a political drama. The film revolves around a Thiruvannamalai man and his efforts to enter politics. “Herd mentality is everywhere. And it’s most prevalent in governance. The film addresses this issue, but in a comic way,” the actor told Silverscreen.

The film also stars Mahima Nambiar, Mayilsami and Radha Ravi in key roles. Directed by Rajkumar, the film is produced by Vetrimaran’s Grass Roots Film Company.
