The upcoming movie’s release date has been pushed by three weeks as part of a larger release date shuffle by Warner Bros.

This is not the first time that Dune’s release date has been pushed. Originally scheduled to release on December 18, 2020, the movie got postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Directed by Dennis Villeneuve, the film stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. It is based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name.

According to a report by Variety, Dune tells the story of a young gifted man, Paul Atreides, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

The movie will release on the same date as another one of Chalamet’s films The French Dispatch.

Dune will also premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September. According to Deadline, it will be screened out of competition on September 3.

The shuffle by Warner Bros. has also had an impact on other films. Actor-director Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film Cry Macho is set to release on September 17 instead of October 22. The film is set in 1978 and follows the story of a former rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder, who takes up the job of bringing his ex-boss’s son home and away from his alcoholic mother.

Similarly, The Many Saints of Newark, the prequel to the hit series Sopranos has been postponed to October 1. It was initially expected to release on September 24. The film stars Leslie Odom Jr, Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, and Corey Stoll in pivotal roles.

As per Warner Bros’ decision last year, these films will simultaneously release in theatres and on HBO Max.
