Sharing the film’s trailer, Deol wrote, “I am aware that most of my audience love me for making edgy, alternative narratives, that challenge the status quo. Which is why this film is all the more special as it is a departure from my own status quo, and catering to a much younger audience.”
He added that Spin is a Disney film which will go live on their platform for US audiences on August 13.
Spin is directed by Manjari Makijany, who is the daughter of late actor Mac Mohan and the cousin of actor Raveena Tandon. It is Makijany’s second feature directorial after Skater Girl that released on Netflix this month.
Spin features Avantika Vandanapu, an American actor of Indian origin, as Indian-American teen Rhea Kumar, who discovers her artistic side through learning deejaying. Abhay Deol plays Rhea’s father Arvind Kumar in the film. The cast also includes Meera Syal, Aryan Simhadri, Agam Darshi, Anna Cathcart and Michela Luci.
Deol, who is best known for his stint in Zindagi Milegi Naa Dobara, also has a few other upcoming projects. The actor will be seen in Ajay Devgn’s production Velley, besides Jungle Cry and Junction.
He also has a web series in the making that is based on the book Trial By Fire: The Tragic Tale Of The Uphaar Fire Tragedy by authors Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy. The series will be produced by Endemol Shine India while Sidharth Jain, founder of The Story Ink, will be a co-producer. Helmed by Prashant Nair, the series was announced in 2019.
Previously, the actor has worked in two web series, JL50 and 1962: The War in the Hills.
