Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu are likely to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film based on the life of the poets Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam. Bachchan and Pannu had previously collaborated on Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan.
According to a report in Filmfare, a source said “Both Abhishek and Taapsee have loved the story and are looking forward to collaborating again. However, they are yet to sign on the dotted line. Once the formalities are locked, they will begin preparations.” Initial rumours suggested Shah Rukh Khan, Irffan, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra had been considered for the project.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has previously expressed his fondness for the project. “Sahir saab was one of our most talented poet-lyricist; his verses are still inspiring. To bring them back through his love story will be beautiful but also a huge responsibility. It’s a difficult film for the writer-director Jasmeet Reen too. So I don’t want to be in a hurry but give it the darza it deserves.”
Bhansali, who last directed Padmaavat is set to start work on Inshallah. The film, Bhansali’s tenth movie as director, marks his reunion with Salman Khan after a gap of two decades. The director-actor duo, who will be jointly producing the film, last collaborated on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, after which Khan had done an extended cameo in Bhansali’s Saawariya.
Meanwhile, Taapsee Pannu is currently awaiting the release of her Tamil film Game Over. Directed by Ashwin Saravanan whose last movie Iravakaalam remains unreleased, Game Over has been produced by S Sashikanth under the banner Y NOT Studios. The actress will play a wheelchair-bound character in the film.
Badla, her previous release, is still running in theatres. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the movie starring Amitabh Bachchan has gone on to become a huge success at the box office.
