Actor Arun Vijay Takes To Twitter To Defend Himself Over Drunk Driving Case

Amidst reports that actor Arun Vijay was arrested and held at the Soundarapandiyanar police station after he failed to appear before the police in a drunk driving case, the actor took to Twitter to give his side of the story.

In a letter posted on Twitter, he said, “I have no reason to hide. I did not commit a stupendous crime. As a law abiding citizen, I shall face the charges against me. I don’t know why the issue got blown out of proportion”. He also added that he didn’t go awol as the reports claim, but has been occupied with work and dealing with his own “mental agony”.

The drunk driving incident occurred around 3 am on Saturday, August 27. According to a New Indian Express report, the actor and his wife were returning from the wedding ceremony of actress Radhika’s daughter, when he rammed his BMW into a stationary police vehicle parked on the Valluvar Kottam High Road in front of the Nungambakkam police station. Nobody was hurt in the incident. The actor was taken to the Nungambakkam police station and since his blood alcohol level was found higher than the permissible levels, he was charged under the sections 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, and 279 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code.

However, the actor simply disappeared from the police station on Saturday without informing anyone. According to the New Indian Express report, the actor’s father Vijayakumar,  a veteran Kollywood actor, appeared in the police station on Saturday morning. However, Arun Vijay failed to show up, in spite of repeated summons, following which, the police issued an arrest warrant against the actor.

According to latest reports, the actor will be produced at the Egmore court soon.

Arun Vijay was last seen in the 2015 movie, Yennai Arindhaal. His role, Victor, garnered a lot of critical acclaim. The actor hasn’t given any releases since then. He will be next seen in his medical-thriller Kuttram 23.
