Dhruv Vikram Announces New Tamil Film With Director Mari Selvaraj

Actor Dhruv Vikram announced on Friday that he would be teaming up for a new Tamil film with filmmaker Mari Selvaraj. Mari Selvaraj’s debut directorial was the award-winning Pariyerum Perumal, which was produced by filmmaker Pa Ranjith.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Mari Selvaraj however said, “I have so far not made any announcement on the film. The project is still being finalised and I do not want to comment on it at this stage.”

While plans for the film with Dhruv Vikram are still ongoing, Mari Selvaraj said that Karnan was close to wrapping up and would release in theatres this year. He said, “Karnan‘s post-production is on. But we have not yet decided when the film will be released since Dhanush is also working on Jagame Thandhiram (by Karthik Subbaraj). We don’t want the promotions to clash.”

Karnan will be Mari Selvaraj’s second directorial. His debut directorial was the award-winning Pariyerum Perumal (2018), which was produced by filmmaker Pa Ranjith. The film starred actors Anandhi and Kathir and was critically acclaimed for its treatment of caste oppression and discrimination in Indian society. The film won several awards.

Dhruv Vikram will also play a role in an upcoming film starring his father, actor Vikram. Karthik Subbaraj had announced the film, provisionally titled Chiyaan 60 in June.

Dhruv Vikram made his debut with the 2019 film Adithya Varma, the Tamil remake of Telugu hit film Arjun Reddy directed by debutant Gireesaya. Director Bala, who has worked with Dhruv’s father, actor Vikram, in hit Tamil films such as Sethu (1999) and Pithamagan (2003), had initially been chosen to direct the Tamil remake titled Varmaa. Post shooting however, the production company backing the film E4 Entertainment decided to scrap the version of the movie directed by Bala and reshoot it entirely-this time titled Adithya Varma with Arjun Reddy director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s assistant Gireesaya.
