Actor and choreographer Gayathri Raghuram has denied drunk driving allegations against her, following reports that said she had been booked for drunk driving by Abhiramapuram Traffic Control Police on Saturday night.
According to reports she was returning home from a party, organised at a star hotel in MRC Nagar, when her car was stopped at the traffic check point near Sathya Studio around midnight. It was said a case was filed against her under Section 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act, after her breath analyser test was positive.
Another report quoted the police officer present at the spot, saying that the actor was cooperative through the investigation, and as per her request they dropped her home and withdrew her documents. The report said, Gayathri was also told she could get her documents back after paying a fine of Rs 3,500 at any mobile court.
Gayathri, however, has denied these allegations. In a series of tweets today, she said she’s being used to hide something else, and this was fake news being spread by a reporter who was probably caught drunk and driving. She also said she was only driving back after dropping a colleague home after shoot.
In her next tweet, Gayathri said she was stopped by police, but not for drunk driving. She did not have her licence and other documents, and so the police came home with her to check her documents. “I, in fact appreciated their work, he (police officer) spoke about my father, and was a fan of me – we took a selfie,” she said.
The one who created this fake news he was press reporter who was caught drunk and driving. I finished my shoot and was dropping my co star at home. I was stopped for normal checking. No such incident fighting with a cop ball press reporter ended up writing whatever came in mind.

Actor Kaajal Pasupathi, the colleague who Gayathri said she dropped home, also tweeted in her support, responding to Gayathri’s tweet saying, “Media is constantly targeting me. I don’t know why.”
Kaajal said that this was fake news and she was with Gayathri during the incident. She also added that Gayathri was not well that night.
