The film is produced under the INMOVO Motion Pictures Studio banner and the script is written by Aju Joy. The title poster was released by several technicians from the Malayalam industry, including filmmaker Sohan Roy and production controller Badusha NM, through their social media handles on September 27.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Venmony says Urul will be a gripping investigative thriller that will keep the audience at the edge of the seat throughout. “Viaan plays the role of an investigation officer named Gowtham. He is involved in the investigation of a particular case and it opens up a pandora of other issues and related questions.”

The filmmaker mentions that Urul discusses issues that are usually overlooked by society at large. “The aim is to convey a socially-responsible message to people, especially parents and children. The film will not have any songs or fight sequences. It is a script-driven film and we have tried a new treatment,” he says, adding that the message conveyed through the film is relevant to the current times.

Venmony has previously worked as a choreographer in films like director Rajeevnath’s Aniyan Kunjum Thannalayathu and Sohan Roy’s Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmaar.

INMOVO Motion Pictures Studio was founded by Venmony as a VFX company in 2019. Later, when his friend Aju came up with the subject of Urul, Venmony, with the help of his friends and family, decided to back the film under his banner. “Aju’s idea was interesting and it was based on events that we see in real life, so we felt it would be good to make it as a film.”

Apart from Viaan, the film features several new faces who were selected through auditions.

Urul was shot for around 10 days in three schedules in Pandalam, Adoor and Kochi. The film is currently in the post-production stage and according to Venmony, the team plans to finish everything within two months for the release.

Meanwhile, Viaan, who has acted in films like One and Mamangam, will be next seen in Oru Thathvika Avalokanam.
