Actor Vijay Thanks TN CM For Reducing Entertainment Tax

Actor Vijay met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy at his residence in Greenways road today afternoon. According to Puthiya Thalaimurai TV, the actor met the CM and thanked him for reducing the entertainment tax from 10 % to 8 % in an hour long meeting.

This meeting is considered crucial due to Mersal’s issue with CBFC.

“Nothing about Mersal was discussed in the meeting,” informs Minister Kadambur Raja, who was also present  at the meeting, to Puthiya Thalaimurai TV.

In the runup to Diwali, the film has been hit with a number of controversies. Earlier this year, an interim stay order was placed on the film due to an issue with its title. Then, a petitioner had filed for a stay on its release fearing a hike in ticket prices by theatre owners. In both cases, the judges ruled in favour of Mersal.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the film had not been issued with a censor certificate. According to a leaked email of the regional CBFC officer, the film was denied certification by CBFC as the makers failed to present a No Objection Certificate from Animal Welfare Board of India.

According to a source from the CBFC, the film contains extensive sequences featuring pigeons and snakes. In this situation, an approval from the AWBI is mandatory. As Atlee and his producers, Thenandal Studios, did not present the CBFC with such a document, the censor process was not completed.
