Malayalam Actress Abduction Case: Kerala HC rejects Aju Varghese Petition To Quash FIR

Malayalam actor Aju Varghese on Tuesday approached the Kerala High Court for quashing a case registered against him after he revealed the Malayalam actress’ name who was abducted and assaulted in February.

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, Varghese submitted an affidavit signed by the actress saying that she did not have any objection to the court quashing the criminal case registered under Section 228 A of the Indian Penal Code (disclosing the identity of victim).

Despite the petition, the HC stated that it wouldn’t be enough to withdraw the charges against him. Varghese’s petition stated that while he did name the victim, he still wanted to extend his support to her.

Soon after actor Dileep was arrested in July for orchestrating the abduction and assault of the actress, Varghese posted a message defending actor Dileep, who was facing allegations at the time. Claiming that he did not know about the law, a case was registered under IPC 228 (A), which prevents revealing the identity of the victim.

The actress was abducted and sexually assaulted on 17 February, 2017, in a moving car in Kochi. Upon investigation, the police team arrested Dileep on July 10 and submitted a remand report that says the actor had offered Rs 2 crore to the prime accused, Sunil Kumar a.k.a Pulsar Suni, to attack the actress and shoot a video of her.
