Actress Ava Mukherjee, best known for playing the adorable grandmother on screen, particularly in pharmaceuticals company Himalaya’s advertisements and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, is dead. She was 88.
According to online publication Scroll, the actress died on January 15.
While the actress had made her debut in 1966 with the Bengali film Ram Dhakka, directed by Taru Mukherjee, her career flourished in the early 2000s. Her notable performances include the one as Shah Rukh Khan’s grandmother in Devdas, the grandmother who spies on her neighbour in Detective Nani, and the old storyteller in Darna Zaroori Hai.
